When to Call an HVAC Specialist

Published by Steven Weiland

While you can resolve some heating issues quickly and easily, others call for a more serious fix; one that can only be done by an experienced professional contractor.

The following are situations in which you should contact your HVAC contractor immediately:

Your home isn’t being heated properly. You can hear the whirring of your heating system, but notice that the temperature has not changed or that it feels stuffy inside. In these cases, you should call a contractor to take a look, diagnose and fix the issue.

Your system is running longer than normal. The heater in your home should only run until it reaches the desired temperature, then turn off until the temperature drops again and requires heat again. If your heat continues to run and run, there is a number of possible issues. A professional will be able to pinpoint the source of the problem.

Your thermostat isn’t working properly. Again, problems with the thermostat could be due to a number of things. If it simply requires replacement batteries, you can do that yourself. However, if the issues are more extensive, it is best to get someone with experience to your home to check it out. Thermostats run on electricity, and you don’t want to risk injuring yourself.

Your system is old. Heating systems that are over ten years old are more likely to have problems and will require more frequent maintenance. Have a technician come to your home to look through all components of the system and ensure that they are working correctly and won’t cause you issues in the near future.
